I hope, with time, this blog will get better as I get more practice writing reviews. My mom, myself and for a while my fiance, are doing a read-a-thon between each other to see who reads the most, (at the moment, it seems my mom is in the lead with a LONG way to go to catch up with her.) At first it was just from June to September, but we were in the process of moving, and since my mom is disabled, she couldn't help much with the packing, so I asked to extend it though the holidays. then recently, I thought about it, and since my fiance is out (hopefully he comes back) I decided to find out how many books can one read in a year. so I'm still thinking, but I might extend it out till next June to see.
As a Kid, I participated in the book read-a-thons, both at school (the dinky metals to prove it) and during the summer at the library (God I loved those), I don't know of any for adults, since the ones at the library are for children under teenagers. I still enjoy reading, as does my fiance and mom, so I thought why the heck not, it would only be between the three of us, and if I were to do it again, I might ask others to join, like friends and what not.
After, Harry Potter series was becoming a smash hit across the world, I noticed that the fantasy genre exploded with fantasy authors targeting the young adult, books that I would have loved to read as a kid, suddenly showing up on the book shelves as I entered my adult years. needless to say, it was all overwhelming. Now that Twilight saga has made it big, I've noticed that there are more books out there about vampires aimed for the same age group as the Twilight fans. (I haven't read any of the twilight saga, and am unsure if I want to pick it up or not)
So during this read a thon, most of my books would be categorized as books for children and teens. I've become more 'critical' since my best friend just had their first child and soon she'll be reading (even though the dad gets frustrated with reading being dyslexic) and someday I hope to have kids, so I know if I give them one of these books, I know they'd be reading quality and if they have any questions I can answer them.
I've also been reading manga and comic books (helps that the fiance is a comic book geek and if I want to know who he's talking about I'd better read) since I think as a kid I never got into them, wanting to read stories about horses, wolves and fantasy, and needless to say, I think I deprived myself. some of these stories are good. eventually my fiance and I will do our own comic book, and I think reading these will help my drawing skills.
